Fashion Statements

If you’re a jazzy type of person that loves to show off innovation in how you dress, know this: conveying the correct message is important. While trends are fun, keep in mind that they’re just ‘trends’ and not ‘timeless pieces.’ Lay off the craziness in fashion a bit.

The reason why is while you’re dealing with an art form–fashion–know that you are essentially the canvas, not the artist. At least it will be conveyed that way, to be honest. When people look at you, they won’t see someone who’s being inventive with their clothing; they’ll see someone who’s not really understanding what’s being worn. In other words, what might look cool on you from your perspective won’t look cool on you from someone else’s perspective. Makes sense, right? After all, a canvas doesn’t know how a canvas looks after the masterpiece is created….

Fashion statements are important, however. Some of the things you need to keep in mind regarding statements, though, are simple things like ‘strength,’ ‘consistency,’ and ‘solidity.’ It brings new meaning to the phrase, “put together.” When you’re “put together,” it means you wearing clothing that matches, that complements everything else on you. You’re making the statement that you’re confident in yourself, not in what you’re wearing.

What you don’t want in a fashion statement is ‘I’m me, so get used to it,’ or ‘look at me, I’m crazy!’ or something like that. While you might be crazy, and many enjoy it, people won’t see your wild and crazy personality–they’ll see your wild and crazy clothes instead! That’s not something you want. Don’t associate your unique personality with your clothing. Wild and crazy clothes don’t make you wild and crazy!

The point is to wear clothing that complements you rather than defines you. You are who you are without those cool shoes, that awesome shirt, that sexy dress. Your fashion statement should be about you, not about your clothes. Remember that.
