Trouser Styles: What to Choose and Why

For some men out there, a pair of pants is simply a pair of pants. But what they don’t know sometimes is a certain type of trouser radiates a feel that is different than another style. Case in point: a triple-pleated dress pant versus a pair of cargo khakis. Here’s the skinny (or fat) on the types of choices men have on what they can wear on their bottom half.

First off, there’s the all-important khaki pant. If you’re into clean looks and a preppy style, you’d want the khaki. It’s the fine line between class and casual. Moreover, you get a huge assortment of colors that also pull the line either closer to class or closer to casual. For instance: stark white khakis tend to be more about class than casual, whereas a dark khaki color gives you more of that casual look.

Add a few items, such as the hammer loop, extra pockets, cargo pockets, and you have the trendy cargo pant–which at one point was a functional clothing item, but now can be seen as a fashion statement. If you’re the type of man that thrills at the sight of looking like a man who knows how to get things done, then that’s what a cargo pants will give you.

There’s the dress pant, too–a lot of that, though, is somewhat functional. For instance, you’ll find a good number of different fabrics when it comes to dress pants–microfiber, polyester, cotton, you name it. You also have flat fronts, double-pleated, and triple pleated. Dealing with size and frame, these characteristics almost don’t have anything to do with style. However, the colors, patterns, and fabrics are more of a personalized choice than anything else.

Do your own research and think of what you’re looking for in a style of pants–in the end, it all depends on you!
